| About No.5
Restaurant Since
March 2009 Bath's No.5 Restaurant has come under the
proprietorship of Richard and Carol de
Cesare.
Those who are familiar with this established and
popular French restaurant in the heart of Bath need
not worry that this means one of the city's best fine
dining destinations is about to undergo any dramatic
changes of direction though.

"When you take on a successful restaurant, with an
established reputation for excellence, I
think you need to proceed gently" says Richard, who
honed his cooking skills at a number of London
restaurants before returning to his native city of
Bath. As Chef Patron he can now be found directing
operations in the kitchen, while Carol is focused
upon ensuring that customers receive faultless and
attentive service from her position at
front-of-house.
Continuity "We were conscious of a sense of responsibility,
almost stewardship, for the continuity of what has
long
been a popular, valued and much-loved institution in
the city. So we're not intending to make any
sweeping changes, but rather to reassert and
reinvigorate the core values that have made this
restaurant such a successful feature of Bath's culinary
scene."
Richard feels that in No.5 he has found a natural
home for his culinary ambitions: "The existing
formula at No.5 was consistent with my own approach, style
and technique as a chef; both in terms of its menu
and overall philosophy. That was one of the things
that attracted us to the business initially. I want
No.5 to be an expression of my belief in providing a fine
dining experience, but without the attitude or pretension that too often seems to accompany it"
Simple, classic dishes For No.5's customers that means the same simple but
well-executed classic French and Mediterranean
dishes remain on the menu, with the emphasis upon
using only the very finest quality, completely fresh
and locally sourced ingredients.
Richard is also a keen guitarist, playing in a
French gypsy jazz style, and it's he and Carol's
love of music that has led them to initiate the
Tuesday night music slot. "We have live music in
the restaurant - not so that it's intrusive, but
just an opportunity for talented musicians to add a
little mellow atmosphere to the evening".
